So.... it has been over a year since any new posts.  Here are a couple random pictures

Twins- One Month)

At one month old the girls are putting on some weight. :) Jenna weighs 6 lbs. 8 oz. and Tessa weighs 6 lbs. and 2 oz. They are both doing good and besides Tessa's ultrasound on her hips we don't need to go back until their 2 month appt.

Were Home

A little late, but here they are. Jenna came home on 4-4-2011 and Tessa came home a day later on 4-5-2011. Both girls are doing well and gaining weight. Jenna- 6 lbs 4 oz, Tessa- 5 lbs 14 oz. They are getting accustomed to being loved and held, crying when set down. Cam and Lys are very happy to have everyone home, mom and dad.... even happier!

Progress

Jenna~ I just made it into a big girl bed. Now all I need to do is eat all of my feedings with a bottle for 3 days in a row, while maintaining my temperature and body weight. (Not too much to ask of an 8 day old premie.)

Tessa~ I'm trying my hardest to keep up to my sister. I too made it into a big girl bed today. I get tired quick when eating, so I get more tube feedings than Jenna.

Now that the girls are in the open cribs we can pull them out for every feeding.

When they were in the isolettes we were only allowed to get them out twice a day.

They're Here!

These two little girls made their entrance into this world on Sunday, March 20th 2011. Baby A- aka, Jenna came at 11:38 pm. She weighed 5 lbs 3oz and was 18 1/2" long. She is doing great. Currently she is under the lights for jaundice, but otherwise breathing on her own. We haven't tried feeding her yet.

Baby B- aka, Tessa made her entrance at 11:40 pm. Weighing in at 4 lbs 13 oz, and measuring 19" long. She was having difficulty breathing on her own since her lungs weren't ready to breathe on their own. Initially she was put on a ventilator but then taken off a few hours later. She was then moved to the oxygen tubes that go in the nose. Definitely a fighter and not wanting to accept much help for long. She is progressing at an amazing pace in a fraction of the time expected by doctors and nurses. We are hoping to get to hold her today after they remove the lines put into her belly button.
These were the first pictures we have of them in the NICU. I will try to post more as we get them loaded onto the computer.

Hospital Fun

While at the hospital the kids both had a loose tooth. Alyssa got hers out and Cam was not going to be passed up, he ended up getting his out a few minutes later. Fortunately, the tooth fairy made it to the hospital.

While being on bed rest I have learned to crochet. Here is my first project, it is a little blanket for Alyssa's dolls. Now I am making a blue on for Cam's animals.

Sunshine/ Fresh Air

Paul brought the kids down to see me and I guess outside my room there are some wheelchairs parked. They decided that mom needed to go for a ride. That was the first time in a week that I had been outside. It was nice to get some fresh air and actually see the sun. : )

Not in the plan

While this is still kinda fresh on my mind I thought I would post what has been happening. At about 12:30 am Monday (2-21-11) morning I woke up to go to the bathroom and was having a contraction. It lasted for about 20 minutes and was quite intense. It stopped for about a minute then started again. This one just as intense and not stopping for about 15 minutes. Hoping this would go away, I showered, drank some water and laid down.... contractions continue, but lessen in how long they last. I decide to call the hospital and my Dr. happens to be in and tells me to come get checked out.

As we leave the house I was certain we would be back in an hour or so. WRONG. I was dilated to a 3 and about 90% effaced. Immediately I get hooked up to all sorts of meds to try to stop labor. My doc says they are sending me to SL to St Marks b/c they can't care for babies. As I'm being hooked up I hear the nurses talking about the weather and transportation. Only to hear that the weather is too bad for life flight. At this point I begin to freak out! I assumed I would ride down with Paul. Before long here comes the ambulance crew and off we go.

Once we arrive at St Marks there is more commotion. More drugs, dr's coming and giving us the low down on premature babies, NICU bringing in papers to fill out. (twice as Paul would say since one needs to be done for each baby).

With the magnesium and what ever else they gave me we were able to hold out and not progress any further. By about 9:00 Tuesday morning contractions had slowed down to about 1 every 10 minutes so they took me off of the magnesium and just have me taking some pill to keep them slowed off. As of now Tues. pm they are still slowed! Yeah! If everything continues to go good I will get to leave the constant monitoring in L& D and go to the postpartum floor for monitoring a couple times a day.

I will however be stuck on bedrest in the hospital until babies are big enough to be delivered and not be at risk of being in NICU due to their size and age. Thank goodness for all my family that has completely taken over my house and kids.

So Alyssa had her first experience of getting left on the bus today. She is the last one off and I guess the bus driver didn't notice her and drove right on by her stop.

It is a fight to get her to ride the bus home anyway, now I can only imagine her protests of not wanting to ride!

29 weeks

Here is the first belly picture we've taken.

Babies update

Since I haven't updated since we've found out were getting girls, here's the latest.

Last week I was 27 weeks along. Both babies were weighing in at 2 1/2 lbs. That was a gain of a full pound for each baby in a 3 week period.

The specialists are concerned that baby B has a generous amount of fluid in her sac..... interpretation meaning either gestational diabetes- results came back normal-- or could cause preterm labor. However, my doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned since the fluid amount is still within the normal range. So I am trying to eat as much protein as possible to strengthen the sacs to eliminate that. (one of many things I have learned through this pregnancy, protein from animal meat strengthens the sac).

I looks like were bringing more pink into the Sargent house! Ultrasound confirmed 2 baby girls.

Football

Well Cam is winding down to the end of football season. His team made it to the championship game! We hope they come out with a win on Sat.

Ultrasound Pics

Here are the latest pictures of the babies. The Dr. said everything looks good and they are growing at about the same rate. We were unable to determine gender today. :( But at least they look good and everything is going good.

TWINS

Well, I went to the Dr. yesterday for my first checkup. I got a little surprise when she took me in for an ultrasound and we saw 2, yes 2 babies! So I guess we'll see how this little adventure goes. Right now I'm a bit overwhelmed with processing the idea.

I'll be going back in for another ultrasound within the next week for complete measurements to see how both babies are growing. I will try to keep the blog updated.
